If something goes wrong

The game sends your password without encryption, so use one you don't use anywhere else.

Click More info, then Run anyway. The game isn't signed, so Windows warns about it.

In the game folder, run source\VC_redist.x86.exe, then source\dxsetup\DXSETUP.exe, and start the game again.

Close the game if it's open and start Play.bat again. It tries them again every start.

It's from before the game updated itself. Delete your old Zone4 folder, download the zip once more, right-click it, Extract All, type C:\Games and click Extract. Your account and characters live on the server, so nothing is lost.

• MANIFEST.txt in the game folder lists every file that isn't byte for byte the official one, and the script that made it. The scripts are in the source: the server in Rust, the patch and translation scripts, and the scripts that set up the server and build the game folder.
• Unzip both and give the two folders to your AI. A good question: "Compare MANIFEST.txt with the scripts in the source. Does every changed file come from a script that does what the manifest says? Does anything send data anywhere other than the game server?"
• SHA256SUMS.txt has the SHA-256 of every file, so anyone with an official 589 install can check that the files marked official really are.
• Zone4Local.exe is the official Zone4.exe with the byte patches in patches/offline_589.json; patches/apply_offline_patches.py checks the original bytes before it patches anything.
• update.ps1 is the updater Play.bat runs: a short PowerShell script you can read in Notepad. It only talks to this server.
• What this can't prove: the game itself is the publisher's closed-source code from the official install. The anti-cheat (XIGNCODE) is left out: our Zone4Local.exe never starts it.
